Baby Steps…!

This expression often refers to a baby’s first steps, which are hard ones to take and the most accomplished ones to have. It is doing something you have never done before, which can take a lot time and effort. Basically it means working your way up to anything that may seem hard to achieve but possible to accomplish very slowly, one step at a time. It inspires to take things at your own pace, but not even thinking about taking a step backward. Never give up, always going forward!

Baby steps is a great metaphoric way to adapt and to get us in the right path, in getting things done and overcoming any procrastination thoughts we may have. I am sure you have heard the saying “slowly but surely,” which is another way of talking about baby steps, slowly working your way up in anything that you know you have to do or something that you have been leaving for latter.

Who doesn’t have things that needed to be done in their lives, goals, or challenges that they haven’t started because of fear, phobias, or simply because we just don’t know where or how to start. Then we get unmotivated, we lose interest and then we add it to the rest of the stuff we have put in the back burner of our life.

When I think of baby steps, I can’t help to think of a funny movie called “What About Bob,” a comedy film where the famous actor Bill Murray plays a multi-phobic patient. In the role that he plays, Bob is a good nature man who suffers from various phobias. He comes across psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin and soon he feels good about the results of an initial session with this doctor.

To make a story short, Dr. Leo Marvin -who happens to have a huge ego- had written a book called “Baby Steps” about life advice and here is where the whole plot of the movie begins. If you have not seen the movie yet, I won’t tell more about it so you can rent it and see it.

I mention this movie because it shows some real-life scenarios some people go through in their everyday day life. I think that baby steps are for everyone that feels the need ...
